Thanks a lot to the following persons who has taken their time to give me
some help during the weekend:

- Alan
- Richard Sharpe
- Mike D Cross
- Michael A Crowley

The original question was:

I tried yesterday evening to move my TU (Tru64 Unix) V4.0E patch #1
operating system from an Alpha 2100 to an Alpha 1000A. In fact I did 2
changes at the same time, because because the previous SCSI controller was a
SWXCR (memonic re) and it is now a KZPSC (memonic rz) as far as I know.

Since this change I have a lot of SCSI CAM errors and bus reset. The system
is not usable at all.

Solution:

I first add a bit confusion on the above statments. The Alpha 1000A has 2
SCSI controller (at least the one I use):

- KZPSC-BA Mylex DAC960 also know as SWXCR
- KZPDA Qlogic controller identified as ISP1020

On the previous system (2100), the disks were connected to a SWXCR
controller, and the device memonic was re... As I didn't have the SWXCR
cables available on the alpha 1000a, so I was forced to use the other SCSI
controller, which was changing the device memonic to rz.

Now the real problem was due to a SCSI-bus configuration error. It's hard to
believe for me because the 1000a was working well previously with OpenVMS
and the same hardware. But since I did use a shorter cable (50 cm instead of
1.5 m) to connect the external tape, the system is working fine.

Now to the move itself, I had to boot in single mode using gevmunix kernel,
then start bcheckrc to make the disks write enable, correct the links
/etc/fdmns for the AdvFS partitions, then invoke bcheckrc again to mount the
disks and finaly generate a new kernel with doconfig.

After rebooting I had 2 small problems, the one with swapdefault link could
be corrected by generating a new link:

# ln -s /dev/rzb0 /sbin/swapdefault

the final problem with savecore error message during the boot is still under
investigation, but should be similar.
