Dear all,
quick background:
o large network of DU boxes, all 4.0D unpatched (for various
reasons),
o all machines on individual UPS, all on-line but with no
software connecting them to the actual machines,
o all powered down properly and switched off on Friday due to
planned lengthy electrical works over w/e,
o all powered back on this morning, happily, except one...
OK, so this PWS 500au, new series (i.e. the ones with on-board SCSI
instead of the SCSI card on PCI bus), running 4.0D (FIS trimmed)
decides to come up, says
AlphaBoot 5.90
Please choose operating system
[Windows NT]
Argh! Although of very liberal mind I do not condone this kind of
rebellious behaviour in my machines, especially trying to boot
Micro$soft rubbish from my darling rz16a.
Could anyone tell me how to get back to Digital UNIX? Please tell me I
haven't lost the disk and/or I have to ship it back to Digital. I have
all CDs, i.e. 4.0D & firmware 7.0 (CD, I think it is 6.2-20 for
PWSs). ASAP hasn't yet shipped me 4.0E before you ask.
Digital Support was very supportive and told me to "contact the UPS
manufacturer as it is a software problem with the serial
connection". Clearly telling him three times that the PWS wasn't even
aware of a UPS and was switched off didn't matter much to him...
Any more supportive answers welcome,
Ciao,
Arrigo
