Hi,
This is another butt saved by lsof. The original problem ...
"As my friend Sergio described before, the root file system was getting
full, we noticed yesterday that the space
was slowly decreasing. We freed up about 50 Mb and all of them were
"filled". Because of this we reboot the
system. After this, the space is no longer decreasing, but there is some
slack space that we canīt see. The output
from the du and the df commands is different, so where the heck is the
space ??? "
After we reboot we had a 99% usage of the root filesystem, at this
point we decided to copy the root domain to other partition, then ( with
a normal usage of 23%) we applied patch kit 3.After a while the problem
again, this
time we noticed an oracle's process at rootfilesystem :
sqlplus 25327 userx 5r VCHR 6,17 0t0 593 /dev/pts/17
sqlplus 25327 userx 7w FIFO 0x1a451a00 0 15495
sqlplus 25327 userx 8r FIFO 0x06f47800 0 15496
sqlplus 25327 userx 9w VREG 4086,130915 234708992 2123 /
(root_domain#root)
It had open "something" (there is no a filename, just / ) with the
amount of space that the du command did not
reported, after we killed the command the space was freed.
The point here is that before we applied the patch kit 3, we even reboot
the system and the space wasnīt freed
so the patch helped a lot, but the problem is still around, that is now
an Oracle problem (and ours). : (
Thank you all for you replies, specially to Gene Heater and Joe
Fletcher.
Regards.
