network interface reconfig

Hello all,
I am somewhat confused about internal routing tables on our 8400.
We have a KFTIA board with tu0 and tu1 (both 10Mbps), 2 FDDI interfaces
fta0 & fta1, and 2 DE500 interfaces (tu2 and tu3). tu0 and tu1 were
setup first, then fta0 and fta1. (neither DE500 is configured yet).
When we wanted to move to the FDDI as the primary interface we changed
the order in rc.config and changed hostnames in DNS. The problem is
that now traffic comes in fta0 and goes out tu0. We didn't want to
delete tu0 completely because we needed the redundancy. We are running
DU 4.0d with patchkit #3. My questions are:
  1) is tu0 sacred? can we delete it and use tu2 & tu3 instead?
  2) why is traffic coming in fta0 and out tu0? (all interfaces are on
the same subnetwork through concentrators, etc.)
  3) we are using static routes now, is routed or gated better for a
        relatively static network?
  4) is FDDI or 100Mbps Ethernet better? The box is primarily an
        Oracle server if that matters.

TIA
  Jon
