My original question was about my Alpha PC164 crashing upon rebooting
after upgrading from 4.0B to 4.0E. I would like to thank the following
for their replies:
Dr. Goetz Golla
Don Rye(?)
Dr. Tom Blinn
Being on the inside track, Dr. Tom Blinn had the most accurate sources
of information on this. My problem may come from the Intraserver SCSI
controller that I have my boot disk on. DUNIX 4.0E has added support
for these controllers, so there should not have been a problem with the
upgrade. Some folks within the UNIX development group of Compaq are
looking into the problem right now.
In the mean time, Dr. Blinn suggested that I boot off of the genvmunix
file, and rebuild the vmunix file specific to my system. This worked,
and the machine is up and running now.
thanks again,
eugene chu
