Sorry it took so long to post a summary, but we just got it working.
We couldn't get connected to Informix through the network when C2
security was enabled. The solution was to upgrade from Informix 7.2
to 7.3, I also upgrade from 4.0B to 4.0E with all the patches in
order to do the Informix upgrade. After the upgrade everything started
to work properly.
Here are some of the suggestions that I had

Not necessarily your issue but I got past a similar problem with ODBC onto
C2 connectivity by reducing the Informix password to 8 characters.

Make sure that the password hasn't expired on the Informix user account by
doing a normal login. Try putting an entry in the .rhosts file for the
user as well as in /etc/hosts.equiv. I've also experienced problems
because Informix seems to be built with static libraries which means that
if the password encryption algorithm is changed for that user, a UNIX
login will succeed but the Informix login may fail as it's still calling
its own version of the login code.

In my case, I used the drivers in I-CLI 2.5 that came on my IDS CD. I
also installed I-Connect before installing the IDS on DU 4.0D.
The funny thing about I-CLI 2.5 is that it overwrites certain dll's
which result in the version of the ODBC administrator being set back a few
versions. My clients were Win98, WinNT 4.0 (Server and Workstation). I
had to restore from another server/PC. I have the list of dll's
somewhere; not at hand right now. This resulted in failures when trying
to establish a link using Word or Excel.

Hi all,
I'm trying to implement C2 security on a digital unix box (v4.0b) with
Informix and Baan. I have been able to get the C2 password security
implemented and managed to keep the old passwords, but now the Informix
refuses to connect saying that the user doesn't exist when you connect
through the network connection. You can connect using dbaccess locally.
I have tried putting the address of the connecting machine in hosts.equiv,
I even tried to use a + in the hosts.equiv, but to no avail. We need (I
believe) C2 in order to implement password aging.
Has anyone been able to get this to work, or have another way to
implement password aging in DU?
