The problem is the following:
We have to change IP numbers of all computers in our
local network from 148.81.196.xxx to 212.87.1.xxx.
Our mail server, which is a DU 4.0B alpha, should still
be able to receive mails at the old IP number.
Packets both with old and new numbers are currently
properly routed to and out of our local network.
I've made the following test at the alpha:
* host and gateway IP numbers were changed to the new values (212.87....)
* the old IP number (148.81...) was added as an alias IP
I used netconfig utility.
The machine could be ping-ed from a remote host
(from outside our local network) at the alias IP (148.81...)
but could not be reached with traceroute at this number.
More important, it was not able to receive mails at the alias IP, either.
(The old IP, was still cached by a remote nameserver
and this is why mails were directed to the old IP.)
Any suggestions what could be wrong ?
Should it work at all ?
Thanks in advance.
Marcin
