Hi again,

Yes I tough it was my video card too, so I removed it but the problem was still
there :(
Yes the latest firmware was applied to that server (v. 5.3) and yes I run the
ecu utility (v. 1.11A) has compaq people told me too.
Yes someone in compaq (high skill unix specialist) told me that you MUST run
the ecu utility each time you run a firmware upgrade, even on those pci machine
!.
And No I can not reboot that server for testing it's a production server, so I
nedd to get as much information as possible before a new attempt.

The crash occur at the same place wether I boot from the CD or from a generic
kernel newly installed.

I did the same upgrade to another 4100 equiped with the same hardware and it
worked well except that I was not able to use my tape drive. I was able to see
those tape using the scu show edt command but the mt status command would
always return no such tape or address. The workaround for this problem,
disconnect the HLZ50 and boot into single user, from there reconnect HLZ70 unit
and then continue the boot process, et voila, I can use back my tape !!!!

So the same HLZ70 box is connect to the machine that crash, and no I did not
try to boot with this HLZ70 unit disconnect :( it was late !!! And on my
ohter 4100 even if the tape were not working the machine was able to boot in
single or multi user mode !

Can someone tell me how to use the HLZ70 term utility and how to make sure the
firmware of that box is OK ????? And is there a place were to check for on
compaq web site for those hardware incompatibility for unix 4.0d

Thank's for youre great help and have a nice day
