hello gurus,
I have an altavista firewall 97 installed b/n my network and
an external network ( both are private networks). The sole purpose of
connecting the networks is for some file transfers. i have enabled ftp
proxy on the firewall and disabled all other proxies. The configuration
is gets and puts from the internal network and no connection to be
established from external. i have configured the ftp as a transparent
proxy, so that the user from my network can give ftp directly to the
destination system on the external network. but iam having a problem,
users are complaining that the ftp connections take a lot of time.
My observation was that normally it takes more than 30 secs for the
connection prompt to appear, it takes another 15-20secs for the password
prompt to appear after typing the username. i think this a very long
time to establish a ftp connection. one more thing is that even this
is not consistent, sometimes it take more than 5 minutes, users have
even said that some times it never connects even after an hour.
have anyone faced a problem similar to this, and if there is a solution
pls let me know.
TIA
Umapathy
