Hi,
I recently got a DEC personal alpha workstation running DU4.0d.
Under the CDE there is a folder called Demo_Programs on which we find the
CD_player application.
If I try to run it not being root it doesn't work, however if I
run it as root it does work. The other programs in the same folder work
properly. The permissions all the same for all the applicatives (inlcuding
the CD_player).
It occured to me that this behaviour is so to avoid users that
might be remotely using the CDE graphic enviroment (though a NCD terminal
for example) to mess with the CD drive that is supposed to be used only
though the console (to which it is attached) and it happens so that root
is th guy who generally uses the console.
Does anyone have a clue how to allow other users to use the
CD_player ?
I appologize for the previous messagel, "Help", I was trying to
get an automatic message with informations on how to subscribe.
Best,
rafi
