kernel stack not valid

We have an Alpha Server 2100 with 4.0D Patch 2. Several system
environments are available on 9gb wide SCSI Disk Drives.

We cloned those disks using the following steps:
- disklabel the disk so it is bootable
- create clone_root and clone_usr AdvFS domains
- create filesets for root, usr, var, log, and tmp
- mount created filesystems and copy using vdump/vretsore

After booting off the clone disk several times without problems, the
following message is displayed after "jumping to bootstrap code"
message:

        halted CPU 0

        halt code = 2
        kernel stack not valid halt
        PC = 0

The disk label shows the "fstype" as "unused" when it should be AdvFS.

We have searched the archives but have not found a summary to explain
the error. Has anyone seen this error before?
What actions should we take to correct and prevent the error?

Thanks,
