Hello Managers,
Thanks to all who spended time for my problem.
Unfortunately, there is not a easy way to take
a decision. Any responses says "OK you can do it"
an other says "STOOP don't do it".
I believe the only thing I can do is to buy an
additionnal disk and then move properly and safe
to the new disk.
Thanks to Andrew Busch,Olle Eriksson,Girish Phadke,aad_at_nw.verio.net,
esci,Phil Hale,Guillaume.Bourque,wmills_at_WellsFargo.COM,Choon-Pheng Lim
and like each time Dr. Alan Rollow and Dr. Tom Blinn.
Any extracts of the answers I got :
- dump -0f - /usr | (cd /disk1/usr ; restore -xf - ) should do the trick
- In general there is no problem moving /usr to another disk.
- Yes yoour option will work
- You'll have problems (eg., booting) if you do it that way.
- I've done this sort of operation quite a few times over the years.
- Everything will work just fine. We have done this procedure on two
different Dec Alpha 3000 M900's and it works like a charm.
- Migrate the data to the new file system and change the mount point in
/etc/fstab.
- What you describe will almost certainly get you into trouble later on.
- You will almost certainly get into BIG trouble later on if you try to
make /usr be a symbolic link.
- Yes it sould work no problem but I would take another approch.
- you are almost right...
- Personally I don't think that is a good idea.
Again, many thanks to all
JEAN
