telnet timeouts - how to increase time limit

We have users connecting to a Database via telnet sessions. When there is
heavy network traffic sometimes they lose their telnet connection. I
suspect it times out after some time period. The problem with that is it
disconnects the user from their database process and that can lead to data
inconsistencies.

Other than upgrading the network, or policing network activity, I don't
see many options. Is there a way I can at least increase the period of
time before telnet times out? Any other suggestions would be appreciated
as well.

TIA.

Rob
