Supported third-party cards for Compaq TruUnix 4.0E

What third-party low end cards are supported for PCI/EISA machines
like the AlphaStation 600/600A? We don't need multimedia services, etc..
Basic X functions for Sysadmins but better than VGA 16 color.

P.S. Once we have this great card, what steps are necessary to get
the OS and X server to recognize it?
