System V Printing

Hello Managers

I have today tried upgrading an Asvr 1000a from DU V4.0B to V4.0D. There is
an application running on this system that requires the System 5 printing
subset (SVEPRINT4??) to be installed, as it uses SVR4 print syntax. All of
the SVE subsets have been installed.

When the upgrade was started the system stated that the System V subsets
must be deinstalled before the upgrade could continue, this was done with a
setld -d SVE??? SVE??? etc....

The operating system was then upgraded successfully. We then re-installed
the SVE subsets from associated products vol 2.

When we tried to print nothing worked. All the SVE print commands worked,
but the system had lost all of its printer configuration, even /etc/printcap
had disappeared. We tried extracting files from backup, but we were unsure
of exactly which files to extract.

Unfortunately the printing is essential to the operation of the system, so
we had to revert to restoring from backup.

Any ideas what we did wrong ??

Regards
