My questions were the following:
I want to find out , What is the Maximum size of a file when I using the tar
command ?
And the answer:
Most of the answer is , that the maximum size of a file
when using tar is depend on the structure of the source code.
I got a anwser from Mr. Alan Rollow .
He say "The maximum file size that can be saved to tape and have
a reasonably portable tape is 8 GB. That's because the
file size field is 12 octal digits."
At the same time , Dr. Tom Blinn told me ,
"In the release notes for most of the recent versions of Tru64 UNIX there is
a section on limits (in one of the appendices in the back). It lists most
of the limits for the archivers like tar, pax, and cpio. "
And I find out the answer is 4GByte of a file , when using tar command .
Thanks again..
