setting screen resolution for a ELSA Gloria Synergy card?

I'm trying out an ELSA GLoria Synergy (PBXGK-BB) card in an AlphaStation
255 running DU4.0E and Open3D-4.9.3 - yes I know this card is
"unsupported" on this hardware... but I need an inexpensive 24bit
solution! Problem is how do I change the screen resolution and depth? X is
currently displaying in 1280x1024x8bit. There doesn't appear to be any
jumper or switch settings on the card. Setting "-screen0 XXXX" in
Xserver.conf doesn't work (I'm running xdm). Although changing the
vertical sync rate with "-vsync XX" does work!

I'd really like to run the card in something like 1024x768x24bit.

The documentation delivered with the card from Compaq seems heavily geared
towards Windows NT, no mention of Unix in the install guide at all. Is it
possible that there are 2 versions on the card from Compaq? And my
reseller has sent me the NT version?
