SUMMARY: Unsupported device during Firmware Update.

The fix was to download and install the latest Firmware Update - Version 5.3 from Digipaq.
It was uncanny that Sam Matson had a related question about creating a bootable FW diskette.
I prudently did rename the exe file to fwupdate.exe and had no problem.

Just one note of irony:
After booting the 4.0D CD, the first of the installation screens has an entry
for the date.... mm-dd-yy. That's right - a 2 digit year field on the first Y2K "ready" OS from Digipaq!
Not very encouraging is it?? I only hope the yy thing ends there.

Hey! Thanks to :

I think that you want to get the latest firmware upgrade for these puppies (v5.3). See:
http://ftp.digital.com/pub/Digital/Alpha/firmware/readmes/dpw433.html
Download digitalpw_v6_9a.exe and install it either by following the directions to create a bootable floppy or by using bootp/joind + tftp to flash the firmware.

I believe that is the Elsa Gloria card. Hardware support for the card probably postdates the v5.0 firmware (which is pretty old).

You shouldn't need ECU for the Personal workstations.
