C2 security and passwd

Greetings everyone

The long saga of passwd vs. C2 security continues

Here's what I know so far...

5 machines 1 NIS server, 4 clients, all with C2 installed.
When I installed C2 originally, I answered "yes" to
"create extended profiles for NIS users."

It did, and I wound up with five independent passwords on
five different systems... in other words, passwd, even
on the server, even though these accounts exist only
in the NIS data base on the server, changes only that one machine.

So: now.. I am reinstalling one machine from the ground up, one
of the clients.

I answer "no" to "create extended profiles for NIS users?"|
(NIS users that were working just before I installed the C2)

and it doesn't let those users log on at all to this system.

What's going on? The manual indicates that the latter option
is what you are supposed to do, but it seems that neither way works. Help!
