Fellow Listers,
Has anyone bought a new AlphaServer as an upgrade and managed
to *simply* move the system disks from the old machine to a new
machine.
I am preparing to do just such a task this weekend and would
like to be aware of any possible pitfalls, gotchas etc.
Currently our customer has two Alpha 2000s in a TruCluster
configuration. There is a shared SW300 RAID cabinet with
dual HSZ40 controllers.
The customer has purchased a new Alpha 1200.
The aim is to put the SCSI card and Memory Channel card and
system disks from one of the 2000s into the 1200.
Then, if that works, to take the memory and processor from this
2000 and put it into the other 2000 creating a Dual processor
system with more memory (SMP license has been purchased !)
The issues at the moment are will the system disks, which are
mirrored keep the same device ID ?
Does the KZPSA SCSI card have to go in the same numbered PCI
slot to ensure the RAID devices keep their IDs ?
The graphics card is different, so where will console output go ?
Any comments or tips would be greatly appreciated.
