I'm in the process of upgrading an AlphaStation 600 from Digital-Unix V3.2D-1
to V4.0D. I first installed Firmware Update V5.0. I then attempted to install
ECU V1.11A. The ECU command failed with the following messages,
Starting EISA Configuration Utility...
Unexpected exception/interrupt through vector 420
process ecu, pcb=07f49ea0
. . . . . . . . . .
. . . . . . . . . .
. . . . . . . . . .
. . . . . . . . . .
etc....
I believe the floppy drive and ECU diskette are working properly. I used
both fddisk and the mtools utilities to verify this.
Anyway, I don't think communication to the floppy had started before the
messages appear, because I get the same dump even if I don't have a floppy
in the drive. I believe ECU V1.8 is currently installed on the system since
that is what came with the system when it was bought.
Should I have upgraded the ECU before the console firmware?
The supported version of the ECU is V1.10 or higher according to the V4.0D
release notes. If I don't make any hardware changes, do I still need to
upgrade the ECU.
Thanks for any help.
