SUMMARY: Byte swapping on Digital Unix

1) No, we can't get rid of the Sparc and migrate it to alpha. The
third-party market data software only runs on Sparc Solaris.

2) XDR and other solutions aren't the answer. XDR abstracts byte
swapping. We want to get rid of it. The recent rapid increase
in market volume has swamped up. Yes, we do have EV6 systems,
but the byte swapping is wasting large number of CPU cycles.

3) As we thought, the alpha can run in either endian mode (most
"new" chips can, but the SRM firmware and expansion boards
   require little endian mode.
