Hi,
Our main server (AlphaStation 1000 DU 4.0D patch kit #3) recently reported
the following error messages while extracting data from a TLZ07 DAT.
This morning a Compaq engineer replaced the DAT drive unit. Unfortunately,
the error messages reappeared (after the engineer left!). Therefore, I am
suspicious of the data integrity of our Maxell DDS2 DATS? How can I
determine if the DAT has an I/O error?
Hard Error Detected
DEC TLZ07 (C)DEC553C
Active CCB at time of error
CCB request completed with an error
Error, exception, or abnormal condition
MEDIUM ERROR - Nonrecoverable medium error
cam_logger: CAM_ERROR packet
cam_logger: bus 0 target 5 lun 0
ctape_iodone
FYI, the DAT were created on a DAT unit outside of our institution. I
recognise that that DAT unit could be the source of the I/O errors.
In addition, I read an interesting poster with the tru64-unix archive
which may indicate that the I/O error could be related to the length of
the SCSI cable and/or termination problems:

Any advice would be welcome. As always, summary to follow.
Regards,
Rich
