Thanks to all who responded. Just about everyone said that it was one of
the easiest upgrades that they have done. I received a few words of caution
about compatibility issues with Oracle7 and 4.0E or the EV6 chipset, but I
also heard from others saying that everything's worked fine for them.

I'm going to be doing a test run of 4.0E and Oracle 7.3.4 on a development
box today and tomorrow, so we'll see what happens.

Thanks for the help!

Original question:

Greetings all:

My company is trying to decide if we want to upgrade our largest production
server (AS8200 running DU 4.0D w/ Oracle 7.3.4 and 1TB storage grouped with
LSM) up to a GS60 as painlessly as possible. Unfortunately, we do not have
a backup server to roll our data on to, so we would be doing a rather
critical upgrade.

I know with the upgrade to a GS60, we will have to upgrade the OS to 4.0E
(for the EV6 support). Normally, when I do an upgrade, I like to do a
scratch install of the OS, but it won't be possible on this machine, since a
week of downtime is unacceptable. Therefore, I'll need to do an
installupdate. Does anyone have any war stories or gotchas that I should be
aware of on doing an installupdate from 4.0D to 4.0E?

Of course, I'll take the standard precautions of making 100 backup copies,
burning incense, and summarizing afterwards.

Best regards,
