  Sure sounds like a bug. To try to figure out where it's coming from,
  I'd go to the patch kit inventory files (look in /usr/.smdb. for files
  with name that begins with "OSFPAT" and a type of ".lk" -- for each such
  file, there is a corresponding ".inv" file that lists the files in the
  patch subset, and you can use, for instance, awk to extract just the
  file names), and for each of the files delivered in the patch, I'd look
  in the file (with, for instance, the "grep" utility) to see if it
  references a file "volatile.dat". That is NOT something that should be
  there, as far as I know. Also, check the .scp files for OSFPAT to see
  if one of the installation scripts put it there.
