I am running a NIS service with one master and four clients. I am
trying to make one of the clients a slave server. All machines
are running C2 security. I have two problems which may or may not be related.
1) whenever I change a password on the master server, the
error message comes back:
Map 'ypslaves.higgs.phy.albany.edu' is empty for domain 'hepa'
Yet I have rtfm and there doesn't seem to be any way to tell the
server that it is supposed to have a slave. The manual
gives some instructions that you must add another entry
to the ypservers map but doesn't say what the format of
that entry should be.
2) When I do try to install the other node as a slave server,
the install happens correctly but it cannot see the prpasswd
map on the master server and thus is blissfully unaware of all
the NIS users.
So is the slave install failing because the master doesn't know
about it, or for other reasons?
Any help is appreciated.
