We had a strange error last week, that Compaq have not been able to explain
to date.

The following error was reported in daemon.log

Subject: ***Critical ASE error or status change - 05/14/99 11:08:22
Content-Length: 70
Status: RO

griffin Agent ***ALERT: hard device error on /dev/rz24g from griffin

There were no corresponding entries in the binary error log file and "file"
on the device showed no errors.
Also there were no orange lights on any disk and all production is running
normally.

This appears to be a spurious error, which I can ignore.

However, does anyone have an explanation?

Cheers
