nfsd problems

We have a couple of Alphas servers running DU 4.0b. We have been having
problems with nfsd for some time. I have tried installing the latest patch
bundle but it doesn't help. There appear to be 2 main problems, though they may
be related.

1) Some clients can no longer access files on files systems mounted from the
Alpha, or mount new file systems. In particular we have noticed this with
Windows NT boxes using NFS Maestro, and with Suns running Solaris 2.5 or 2.6
Rebooting the Alpha fixes this for a while but it eventually comes back.

2) When trying to shut down the system it can't kill nfsd and usually hangs. If
I take it down to single user with "init S" and then do a ps I find that nfsd
is still running. Even kill -9 won't get rid of it.

Has anyone else come across these or similar problems.

We plan to go to 4.0f soon, but would like to know if the problems are still
likely to occur.
