i had a hunch and went back to check the crontab...
Sure enough - defragcron had been running.
I still haven't seen a tech. paper as to why this
is recommended by most to be commented out.
Could this have caused it.
We had no backup.

Subject: Got a Sick Feeling - AdVFS Error!
OO Boy...
I had shipped a DEC Alpha Personal Workstation loaded with 4.0D and Oracle8i and a lot of code across the country. It was working fine here. It was shutdown, halted fine. I got a call from the remote site saying they couldn't mount the filesystems that contain their data.
I dial in and notice that it's one of the AdVFS domains won't mount.
It is set up in /etc/fdmns OK, the disklabel looks OK.
When I run "showfdmn blah" I get:
# showfdmn blah showfdmn: can't show set info for domain 'blah' showfdmn: error = E_BAD_MAGIC (-1167)
I have a sick feeling that the data is lost.
What happened?
Anyone ever recovered from one of these scenarios?
Thanks,
