Original Questions with answers interspersed:

>1. We have a Digital Personal Workstation 433au which we use as a server
for >our library electronic catalog. Our computer room in normally
protected by a >UPS but right now it isn't because of a part which they can
only get from >Mexico, but that's another story. Anyway we lost power this
morning and all >my servers rebooted except this one. Is that normal for
this machine and can >it be changed to reboot after a power outage?

Most suggested checking auto_action but the actual problem and solution was
given by Tom Webster:

This has been asked on this list before. With the power of the PW's it's
tempting to use them as servers, but the 'smart' power switches don't allow
the system to automatically reboot after power is restored. The last time
I saw any discussion on this, DEC's answer was something like: "Well, it IS
a PERSONAL workstation...use an AlphaServer if you need a server...." (emph.
added.)

I guess we'll live with it or buy a UPS just for the 433au.

>2. Last year we networked all our dorm rooms. Instead of giving out
public ip >addresses to our students we set them up to obtain one with
DHCP, using joind >which comes with Tru64-Unix. The addresses we gave out
were private addresses >10.*.*.*. We are using Firewall 97, which I know
is not y2k compliant to do >address translation so they can get out on the
internet. We have numerous >complaints about students not being able to
play games at game sites, use ICQ >for chatting and using protected servers
for ordering. We looked into opening >things but it appeared that in order
to enable all these items to be done that >we would have to open up the
Firewall wide open and then why have one. Does >anyone have any
suggestions around this short of giving out public IP >addresses?

I got suggestions to check out Linux with IP masquarading, socks, or a
different firewall. I think I'll go to Roller Hockey Regionals in Lincoln,
NE with my son for the rest of the week and worry about it next week. I'll
check the options then.
