JDK and OSF1 4.0B

After I have installed all patches recommended by Digital to
support JDK 1.1.6, the Logical Storage Manager does not work at
system startup.

It issues the following errors:

  vm_swap_init: vm_swapon for /dev/vol/rootdg/swapvol device failed
lsm:voliod:cannot open /dev/voliod: no such device or address
lsm:vold: Error: /dev/volevent: No such device or address

I modified /etc/inittab and /etc/fstab to start the system up at
multiuser level, however...
LSM does not work.

In summary, what I have done so far is:
 - Remove all patches
 - Try to configure the kernel with doconfig to add all kernel options,
and I got a useless Kernel (!)
 - Remove and reinstall subsets of LSM
 - Restore of /etc/vol/volboot and run /sbin/volinstall, /sbin/vol-startup
and nothing

Questions:

The instructions of patch kit, request an "kernel rebuild" after to
installing the patches,
with doconfig to add any kernel option, does any one know ???

I think I should have remove /, /usr, /var & swap from LSM prior to
installing the patches in single user mode. Is this correct????

Is it possible to regain access to LSM apart from recovering from a
backup???

Does any one know what this special instructions of patch 923.00 means?

WARNING! Binary Incompatibility If Using Inline Mutex Operations
Applications using "inline" mutex operations, as described in the
pthread.h header file, will need to RECOMPILE after installation of
  this patch.

        Thanks!!!
        Raul.
