Who went out of his way attaching files and providing information.
I'm slightly embarrased to admit what the problem was. I originally
downloaded the tar.Z file to my NT box and ftp'd it to my 4100. Even though
I used Binary transfers for both ftp's something apparently happened to some
part of the file. Out of frustration I blew everything away, ftp'd the file
directly from ftp.tcp.com to my 4100 and it all worked just fine. Top is
installed and running fine. Thanks again to all who replied.

UNIX is very user friendly, It's just very particular about who it makes
friends with.
