I regularly use dxterm for my terminal emulator windows.
While in most of them I just run an ordinary shell session (i.e. they are
actual terminal emulator windows), in a few of them I run a fixed application
(e.g. Pine for mail).
I have a little script "identframe" which writes in the title bar (of dxterms,
xterms, Sun shelltool etc. etc. via appropriate escape sequences) an
identification with the hostname, username and tty name (in the icon title I
have only the tty name). This script is run automatically by .cshrc (thus I
know on which machine I'm logged and if as me, as root or as somebody else),
and also (via aliases) automatically on return from rlogin, telnet, su (so
that it is appropriately reset).
On the other hand for the "fixed application" dxterms I invoke them via
aliases of the form dxterm -setup resourcefile -e command, and place
in resourcefile the appropriate X resources, e.g.
DXterm.main.terminal.defaultTitle: Mail (Pine)
DXterm.main.terminal.defaultIconName: MAIL
Now I've noted that sometimes these titles get reset to the "identframe"
style, which is annoying (specially if I keep the mail dxterm iconized, and
want to look at mail ... it's much easier to click on an icon saying "mail"
than on one saying "ttyp2"). I have no time to trace what causes this
(probably some printing or web-viewing script run within pine).
I would find simpler to FREEZE the titles. Is there some X resource of dxterm
or mwm which allows to freeze such resources once set ?
