Thank you for the many replies I got from you.
Here it is the Summary of what I learned about the topic:
Among the free of charge products I succesfully used mswordview
(which is on the T64U freeware CD as well)
It works properly making a html version of the .doc file.
I had no time to test other free packages.

I'm going to test the trial version of applix product which runs under
T64U. It costs in Italy about 950US$ each license (it uses flexlm). It
is full office environment like the "MS office", you can not only browse
the .doc files, but even make them end edit them.
I have a 30 day trial version, but I'm going to holiday so I'll install
it at my return. If you mind ask me in August!
