I thought I had posted this summary, but I never saw it on the list so I am
posting it again. If you get two copies, my bad. I got another opinion
after my first posting anyhow.

Thanks for some quick responses from

Most indicated that this configuration would indeed pull everything on the
controller down to the lowest common denominator.

Alan from DEC was not so sure, but suggested a simple way to test it (which
I will do when I have a chance to play with it a bit).

Tony Miller says all will be cool as long as I put all the wide disks first
and the narrow disk last.

Original question:
>
>We threw an old narrow drive (RZ29B-VA) into an AlphaServer 1200 along with
>some wide drives (RZ1DB-VW) and now I am wondering if that is going to make
>everything on that SCSI bus look narrow. Does anybody know how that works
>-- is it specific to certain controllers or is it a common thing?
