Turns out there is a problem installing and running 4.0E on the VME 4/288 -
Compaq has escalated the issue.

Compaq recommends staying with 4.0D, PK3 until this issue is resolved.

My original message follows:

Managers:

I've got a Digital Alpha VME 4/288 Single Board Computer with 64 MB memory.

Runs fine with dunix 4.0D, Patch Kit 3.

I've tried upgrading to 4.0E (no Patch Kits) and it dies about 5 minutes
after booting - even if the machine is sitting idle!

Console Messages:

Halted CPU 0

halt code = 7
machine check while in PAL mode
PC = 170c0 (other addresses as well)

Has anyone else seen similar problems on their single board machines trying
to use 4.0E?

TIA

Jim
