Hi,
We are experiencing a very odd networking problem on a PW AU600,
running
4.0D+P3. To make a long story short, the ethernet interface will accept
packets (in or out) up to 230 bytes, but no more. Until this morning,
the system had been up for some 72 days, and worked perfectly until
sometime last Saturday morning.
We've rebooted twice - once shutdown -r, then a full power-cycle. No
change. You can log onto DCE, and from there telnet localhost, telnet
<machine name>, and telnet <machine IP> all fine. But you can't telnet
into it from another system, or to another system from the sick one.
You'll get the login dialog, then hang; eventually 'connection reset by
peer'. While hung, netstat on both ends show a connection 'ESTABLISHED'.
Routing, ifconfig, arp, everything we can see/think of looks good.
You can ping the thing all day - so long as the size is 206 or less
(plus overhead); ping -s 207 or higher gets no response.
At this point, we're stumpped, and assuming a hardware failure in
the NIC. Anyone with an explanation other than hardware failure, please
let me know!
TIA,
-j
