SUMMARY: giving eXcursion Apps another font to start with

Our question was:

Dear tru(e) 64 managers (there are certainly more than that out
  there),

we are looking for a possibility to start e.g. xterm as an eXcursion
3.0 application using a non default font (i.e. other that "fixed",
which is not capable of dealing with umlauts) and are facing the
  following problems:

A natural choice would be to define an eXcursion app like this one:

  /usr/bin/X11/xterm -fn -adobe-*-medium-r-*-*-14-720-0-*-m-*-iso8859-1
-sb -sl 255 -ls -ti HOSTNAME

Unfortunately this will end with a GPF:

LAUNCH verursachte einen Fehler durch eine ungültige Seite
  in Modul LAUNCH.EXE bei 0137:0040d3e7.
  ...

We tried to define the font via .Xdefaults or via
  /usr/lib/X11/app-defaults, but to no avail.

Any help is very much appreciated.

There was no answer, but we found the solution ourselves, partly
through an article in the c't magazine 12/99.

a) personal setting

If you wish to change the default font only for yourself, edit
.Xdefaults in your home directory and add a line like this one:

xterm *Font: -adobe-*-bold-r-*-*-14-720-0-*-m-*-iso8859-1

b) global setting

All users are affected if you modify /usr/lib/X11/app-defaults/XTerm

In our case, we added the following line:

HOST:/usr/lib/X11/app-defaults# diff XTerm.orig XTerm
76a77
> *vt100.font: -adobe-*-medium-r-*-*-14-720-0-*-m-*-iso8859-1
HOST:/usr/lib/X11/app-defaults#

You can use resedit to find the appropriate names for widget
propeties.

Other Applications could be modified accordingly.
