Dear Managers,
Nobody else confirmed the problem, but I'm sure there is a problem with
the patch kit checksums and I've reported it to the Digital
webmaster. Either someone there made a mistake or an intruder got at the
files.
I hope it gets sorted in the next few hours because I'm upgrading tomorrow
and would like to have some confidence in the distribution. It's only the
release notes with the bad checksum, but it casts doubt on the rest of the
kit.
To repeat the problem:
I have just downloaded the latest 4.0E patch kit from
http://ftp.service.digital.com/patches/public/Digital_UNIX/v4.0e/
and the checksums don't match on the documentation file. I get:
$ sum duv40eas0002-19990617.pdf
26886 126 duv40eas0002-19990617.pdf
whereas the CHKSUM file says
$ cat duv40eas0002-19990617.CHKSUM
duv40eas0002-19990617.tar 65136 64730
duv40eas0002-19990617.pdf 26256 126
I used binary transfers, and the file is the right length:
$ ls -l duv40eas0002-19990617.pdf
-rw------- 1 bobv staff 128396 Jul 7 15:27 duv40eas0002-19990617.pdf
Cheers,
Bob
