One of my colleagues and I were quite surpised to find that the DS20 with
HSZ22 which arrived in our office
late last week, had no means to communicate with the HSZ via serial
terminal, as in HSZ40s. 50s, etc.
After reading the documentation, one needs to install the StorageWorks
Command console on a PC, then
use that software to configure RAID sets, spares, and so forth.
Technology follows time's arrow, we thought, and
configured our RAID sets and configured the system.
Here's the problem. In the old days, one could always type "shutdown
other", "shutdown this" using a simple vtxxx
product plugged into the serial port of the hsz.
Now we can't. Since the hsz22 won't send simple ascii to a vtxxx terminal,
we need to lug a PC along with the machine
just to run "shutdown other", "shutdown this". You see, the DS20 has to be
shutdown before the HSZ22, and then we have no way
to communicate with the HSZ from PCs on our LAN.
Are we missing something important, here, or is this progress??
Summary of course.
Regards,
Bruce
