We are having difficulties with a RIS installation.
When our clients boot from the network, they go through the boot
sequence, and then say "Initializing for Digital UNIX installation.
Please wait." So far, so good. However, they then say "Cannot
determine RIS home directory on risdec", where risdec is the name of our
RIS server. Then, they start X and begin an interactive installation.
We need to get this to work properly, and non-interactively.
I have a master RIS server which works fine. I have a second RIS
server, which also works, and is kept up-to-date with the master via
rdist. In configuring a third RIS server, also to be updated via rdist,
I ran into this difficulty.
Could someone give me more information (or point me to documentation
with more info) on what the error message means? What is it trying to
do and failing?
Thank you!
