Hi, all.
I have MME242 (Multimedia Services 2.4b) installed on a Alphastation 500/400,
running 4.0b.
I have a FullVideo Supreme card plugged into it (not the JPEG hardward version).
I have successfully used AlphaVCR to grab movies (.AVI) at various resolutions.
However, if I try to use the Save As... command to save an individual image as
.PPM or .BMP, the quality is abysmal. It looks like only a few of the hi bits
from the image are taken, and placed in the low bits of the file!
I tried to use "xv" to grab directly from the "VCR" screen, but the image comes
out dim red! I have a suspicion the "BGR" format that these programs use might
be causing a problem.
The release notes mention some image saving related bugs, but it is not clear
what to do about them! The capability of this product is exactly what I want,
but it doesn't work right!
Looking at "Digital's" Unix site, and searching for Multimedia Services, I
noticed that there is a newer version mentioned MME244. I could not find
anything about it, and it is apparently on the associated products CD-ROM for
V4.0f. I can get access to this, but not quickly, and I want to know if anyone
can tell me:
1) Is there a workaround to get full single image save from a grabbed movie?
2) Does MME244 fix the problem, so that it will be worth my getting it?
3) Anybody implemented their own tool for this? I've built and run the demos,
but really don't want to try to recreate a user interface that already exists
and should work!
Thanks for listening,
Ed
