DBD-Oracle module for Perl under DEC Unix

I've got Perl 5.005_2 runnnig under DUnix 4.0D. My Oracle DBA wants me
to install DBI-Oracle and DBD-Oracle Perl modules. DBI makes, tests and
installs fine. DBD makes but doesn't test properly. Here's the
failure:
---
PERL_DL_NONLAZY=1 /usr/bin/perl -Iblib/arch -Iblib/lib
-I/usr/local/lib/perl5/5.00502/alpha-dec_osf-thread
-I/usr/local/lib/perl5/5.00502 -e 'use Test::Harness qw(&runtests
$verbose); $verbose=0; runtests _at_ARGV;' t/*.t
t/base..............install_driver(Oracle) failed: Can't load
'blib/arch/auto/DBD/Oracle/Oracle.so' for module DBD::Oracle: dlopen:
cannot load blib/arch/auto/DBD/Oracle/Oracle.so at
/usr/local/lib/perl5/5.00502/alpha-dec_osf-thread/DynaLoader.pm line
168.
---
I have no idea what this stuff (DBD and DBI) does. He's checked his
lists and says it is some "64-bit Perl incompatibility" and that it
bodes ill for our future Perl stuff (this is the first time I have ever
had any problem with Perl under DUnix and I'm not even sure it is a Perl
problem). Anyone with 64 bit Oracle/Perl experience able to explain
this bit of handwaving to me?
Thanks,
Dan
