Disabling graphical installation. Tru64 4.0F

Hi all,
    I have an AlphaServer 2100 4/275. I am attempting to install 4.0F
but when the X server is started the machine is no longer usable. Is it
possible to force it to use the text based intall without removeing the
graphics card?
