hello...
sory for the delay, i was waiting a complete solution ( firmware of
tlz09 from compaq). now i got it and try it, it's ok.

i'd like to thank Ian Mortimer, Regine Polnick and Pedro Cunha.

You need to upgrade the firmware on the TLZ09 to match the
system firmware. The TLZ09 needs version 0173 or later firmware
to work with system firmware release 5.3 or later.

You'll have to get a firmware upgrade tape from your local
Dec/Compaq support.

Hello,
It seems to be a problem of TLZ09-firmware.
below an old summmary.

A further bit of information.
Apparently the TLZ09 requires firmware above V0173 when used
with DU4.0D

Hello James,

I think that now You to do an FW upgrade to the tape.
I Already had the same problem and a FW upgrade did it.

You have to ask Compaq for the latest version of FW for TLZ09.

I don't have any logical explanation for this !

Best Regards,
Pedro Cunha.

My original message was:

hi gurus,
after an upgrade of 20 AS800 from the 4.0B to 4.0D with patch
kit3 and firmware 5.4, all the TLZ09 don't work. i can tar, vdump and
cpio but i cann't untar, vrestore or cpio.
at first i think that the TLZ09 are bad, i replace one of it
but no way.
when i try to restore the tape in an other type of
alphaserver: it worked.

            Configuration of a typical AS800:
                OS: 4.0D patch kit3
                firmware: 5.4
                scsi card: ISP1020 firmware 5.57
                TLZ09: hardware revision 04, firmware revision DEC0172

i found in the archive that there are some problems with
this type of scsi card ( speed adaptation that is resolved with
firmware 5.2 and above), others proposed to type at the console:
>>>isp1020_edit -sd

this is the error message when i do:

is there something missing in the update? Are there various
Qlogic problem/code update/fixes ?
