SUMMARY: Using netgroups with medium sized groups

Dear Tru64 Managers,

Problem: NIS falls over in a heap if records in /etc/netgroup are
bigger than 1024 characters.

Thanks are due to
        Paul A Sand
        Mike Iglesias
        Toby Bluhm
        Daniel S. Riley
        Barry Branch
        Grant Ward
who all made basically the same suggestion, which is to split big
netgroups into subgroups, e.g.

third-year-ugrads1 (-,adriant,) ....
third-year-ugrads2 (-,draiant,) ....
...
third-year-ugrads third-year-ugrads1 third-year-ugrads2 ...

Since my netgroups file is generated automatically by a script I need
to make this script somewhat cleverer. Mike Iglesias and Paul Sand
helpfully provided some Perl which they use at their site to achieve
this.

My experience with this problem confirms my view that NIS is not the
sweetest-smelling part of the Unix garden!

Regards,
Bob
