All,

In general the responses were that I was stuck. Many thanks to

Steffi
Yaacov
Robert Mulley

Robert's suggestion to remove the *.lk file from /usr/.smdb. then install
the patch worked. Looks like this one proved your theory correct.
Actually, it did not work 100%, it would not let me reinstall the patch,
but I could install the subset and that was the main thing.

Many Thanks,

Nathan

Subject: Installing & removing Patches

Hello all,

I am having a small problem with installing some patches onto our V4.0D
Tru64 UNIX system.

Basically in order to install Oracle 7.3.4 we need to install OSFLIBA425.
While trying to do the setld -l ... OSFLIBA425 I got messages to the effect
of

Remove Patch X
Install Subset
Install Patch X and Y

While attempting to remove the initial patch it comes up with this message
.....

***************************************************************************

You are deleting the following patches:

 - DIGITAL_UNIX_V4.0D / Library Patches:
Patch 0290.03 - Realtime Memory Leak Correction

Is this correct? (y/n): y

Checking patch dependency...
(depending upon the number of patches you select, this may take a while)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

 - DIGITAL_UNIX_V4.0D / Library Patches:
Patch 0290.03 - Realtime Memory Leak Correction

can not be deleted.

Can not find the backup copy for this patch in //var/adm/patch/backup.

   * Following patch(es) failed in dependency check:

 - DIGITAL_UNIX_V4.0D / Library Patches:
Patch 0290.03 - Realtime Memory Leak Correction

I asked my boss about this. His opinion was the patches are backed up when
you install them, this was not the case, as nothing appears in
/var/adm/patch/backup

Is there a way to make a backup of the patch. I have read the dupatch docos
and browsed the archives and there does not seem to be anything there.

Any help in this would be appreciated.

Many Thanks,

Nathan
