Hi Gang,
If any of you have DS20's that you, on occasion, power down and up,
do you see this also? After power up I frequently see that CPU 0 is
not configured:
AlphaServer DS20 500 MHz Console V5.4-19, Apr 1 1999 10:30:59
P01>>>show cpu
Primary CPU: 01
Active CPUs: 01
Configured CPUs: 01
SROM Revision: V1.82
If I then run the init panel command it will come back....
P01>>>init
Initializing...
512 Meg of system memory
probing hose 1, PCI
probing PCI-to-PCI bridge, bus 2
<snip>
initializing GCT/FRU at offset 1c8000
AlphaServer DS20 500 MHz Console V5.4-19, Apr 1 1999 10:30:59
P00>>>show cpu
Primary CPU: 00
Active CPUs: 00 01
Configured CPUs: 00 01
SROM Revision: V1.82 V1.82
I only recently discovered that init would reclaim the CPU. I had
been doing another power cycle, but that doesn't always work.
I haven't kept statistics on how often it fails. I do know that
the failure cases are not *always* a quick off/on cycle. I now
wait a full minute, at least, before powering on after a power off.
( At one point someone on this list had suggested that the loss of the
CPU was due to a rapid off/on cycle)
If you are running a two processor DS20 you might want to run
/usr/sbin/psrinfo -v just to make sure you really have them both
available.
If I get any response back from this question, I'll post a summary.
Thanks.
