I've got an Alpha 1200 (4.0d pk3) acting as a IMAP mailserver. We have
around 21,000 entries in /etc/passwd and a single large raided mailspool
containing the user mailboxes.... I had this same problem recently and
found doubling maxusers from 512 (we have 1gb of RAM) to 1024 fixed the
problem. However, it's back..... is there any other item I can tune to fix
this? Maxusers has a knock on effect for many other kernel settings. On
Solaris all you used to have to do was to set ndquot=value in /etc/system.
any pointers welcome....including sizing info for this stuff....
