Hi all,
We have three machines, and use NIS. On one of the client machines, we
have local users. To ensure that these users get their mail, we have
aliases for each of their accounts in the aliases file on the master
machine.
Recently, we added a new user and added an alias for him, but his mail
would not get to him. At first it was working fine, but now no more. The
errors we receive are along the lines of username_at_machinenameusername
unknown ... Someone else's username gets appended to the end of the
original username. For example, trying to mail to bob_at_entropy, we would
get a message saying bob_at_entropyharry unknown, where harry is another
user on the system.
To examine the problem, we telnet'd to port 25 and queried, everything
looked fine on the master, but not on the client. When we do a ypcat
aliases, we see tons of email problems along the same lines.
Two questions - 1) How can we solve this problem?
2) Is there a better way to handle mail for non NIS users?
Thanks in advance,
Jeff
